This Surfmaster lure comes in weights ranging from 7 g up to 85 g and finishes including reflective blue, chrome, and blue/white, designed to match baitfish in New  Zealand waters such as pilchard and anchovy. Its slim profile and balanced weight distribution offer excellent casting control, while the built-in treble hook ensures good hook-up rates.

When retrieved with speed or jigged vertically, its flash and subtle wobble attract species like kahawai, trevally, kingfish, and snapper. It’s equally effective when trolled or fished around reefs, gutters, or schooling bait zones.

How to work it

The Surfmaster Pilchard is a slim, slow-sinking metal that fishes best in the sub-surface zone from 0-2m. Cast it out and let it sink briefly, then work it back with a fast, steady retrieve to bring out its flash and subtle wobble, or twitch the rod tip to add erratic movement across the top few metres.

It also responds to vertical jigging - lift and drop through schooling bait, letting the metal flutter on the fall. Around reefs, gutters, and bait zones it can be trolled or cast into working schools. The built-in treble handles the hook-up when fish commit.

Match weight to conditions: lighter sizes for calm, shallow work and heavier sizes for distance casting and windier water. Run it on a matched spin outfit with a suitable trace. It targets kahawai, trevally, kingfish, and snapper feeding on pilchard and anchovy.
