About this lure

The Chibi Short is the compact, finesse-focused version of the Uroco Original, built for imitating tight bait schools and generating crisp action with minimal effort. Its short, broad body delivers the same sharp dart into a relaxed, drifting fall, making it perfect when fish are feeding cautiously or holding tight to reef. Responding cleanly to both slow pitch and high-speed lifts, this unrigged model lets you choose your preferred assist setup for the conditions.

  • Compact finesse profile – ideal for matching micro-bait and pressured fish
  • Dart–relax movement – sharp kick followed by a natural glide
  • Tail-edge drag – promotes easy turning with very little rod input
  • Multi-technique capable – slow pitch, quick pitch and high-speed lifts
  • Unrigged design – customise with your preferred assist hooks
  • NZ species ready – great on snapper, trevally, kahawai and opportunistic kingfish
  • Durable foil and paint – long-lasting visibility in mixed water conditions

Big Kev's Tips

How to work it

The Chibi Uroco is a sinking slow-pitch jig built for deep reef work (30m+).

Drop it to the seabed and work it with short, controlled lifts followed by a relaxed fall-the compact body darts sharply on the rise, then glides naturally on the drop. Minimal rod input is needed; let the jig's design do the work. This finesse approach suits cautious or pressured fish holding tight to structure.

Respond to conditions by varying your cadence: slow, deliberate pitches for conservative feeding, or quicker lifts when fish are more active. The unrigged design lets you pair it with assist hooks matched to your target and water state.

Pair with a sensitive braid and light jig rod to feel the bottom and detect bites clearly.

Which weight, and when

30 g Lighter option for shallow-end deep work (30m) or when a slower fall rate suits cautious fish.
40 g Versatile mid-range weight; balances drop speed and control for typical reef conditions.
50 g Suits faster drops and stronger drift; ideal when you need to stay on bottom in moving water.
60 g Heaviest option for deep, fast-moving conditions or when rapid bottom contact is critical.
