About this lure

Designed in-house and developed in collaboration with Black Magic pro angler, Jonah Yick, this XT lure has proven its effectiveness, landing numerous Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) on both sides of the Tasman.

  • Kona faced lure with a reverse taper head for a pronounced wiggle, mimicking a fleeing baitfish.
  • Scooped cut face and keel-weighted head, allowing the lure to dive, pop, and track left and right, creating a striking smoke trail.
  • Teases fish from the depths with its dynamic action.
  • Made from XtraTuff material, ensuring durability and resistance to cracking and chipping, though it may show a ‘badge of honour’ after a billfish strike.
  • Available in 6” and 8" sizes, with a variety of colours to target a wide range of pelagic species.

How to work it

The Black Magic Kona XT is a trolled game lure deployed in the spread behind a moving boat at trolling speed. Its sinking action and keel-weighted head allow it to dive and track dynamically through the water column, creating a pronounced wiggle and smoke trail that teases fish from depth.

The reverse taper head and scooped cut face generate the lure's striking left-right tracking and pop action as it works.

Rig the 6" model on 4 m of 200 lb Tough Trace with a 7/0 closed gape hook, or the 8" on 8 m of 300 lb Tough Trace; position in the spread according to boat and sea state-outrigger, long corner, short corner, or shotgun-and maintain steady trolling speed to activate the lure's action and smoke trail.
