How to work it

The Corsair 85 is a sinking pencil built for surface work, so let it splash down and begin your retrieve before it drops too deep.

Use a walk-the-dog cadence - short rod-tip twitches with slack between them - to swing the fat tail side to side across the top of the water column.

The low centre-of-gravity design keeps it stable in flight and on the drop.

At 12.5g in an 85mm body it casts a long way on light spin gear, letting you reach breaking fish and cover current lines and bait patches from distance.

Pause the retrieve over active fish to let it sink slightly, then resume the walking action.

It's an effective option for snapper, kingfish, kahawai and koheru feeding on baitfish in NZ coastal waters.

Match your leader and drag to the kingfish end of that range if you expect larger fish. The ST-46 #8 hooks and #3 rings handle solid pulls.
