About this lure

The Halco – Max 220 is the biggest and boldest member of the Max family, built for anglers chasing serious pelagics in tough conditions. This bibless minnow combines a long, slender profile with heavy weight, allowing it to cast long distances, track true, and fish effectively whether casting or trolling at speed.

  • Large 220mm profile – Designed to target big pelagics with maximum hook exposure
  • Heavy 180g weight – Bullet-like casting performance even into strong headwinds
  • Bibless minnow design – Runs straight and stable several metres below the surface
  • Wide operating speed range – Effective from fast retrieves through to 14 knots trolling
  • Rapid sinking action – Gets down quickly and holds depth in rough seas
  • Heavy-duty terminal gear – Fitted with Halco Fish Rings and 9/0 inline single hooks

Big Kev's Tips

How to work it

The Max 220 is a 220mm bibless minnow that runs several metres below the surface with a rapid sinking action, and the description confirms it works both cast and trolled. At 180g it casts long distances even into strong headwinds, so you can also fire it at surface-busting pelagics and let it get down before working it back at a fast retrieve.

Trolled, run it in the spread at anything from 2 up to 14 knots - the wide operating speed range and rapid sink let it hold depth and track true in rough seas where lighter lures skip out. Position it on the corners or shotgun and let it swim just under the surface behind the boat.

Match it to heavy game tackle capable of turning big fish. The heavy-duty Halco Fish Rings and 9/0 inline single hooks give maximum hook exposure for kingfish and tuna.
