The Bucktail and Marabou Jig might look old school, but it’s one of those lures that just keeps catching fish when flashier options fail. Perfect for prospecting the mangroves, sand flats, and shallow reef edges, these jigs are dynamite on little snapper, flounder, kahawai and more.

Vexed has taken the classic design and tuned it up for Kiwi conditions. Each jig is tied with a special blend of durable GLOW/UV fibre, a touch of flash, and even a hint of rubber in some models for extra movement. All are built on Buckabou Jig Heads, fitted with strong, chemically sharpened cutting-point hooks that won’t let you down.

Available from 2.5g up to 28g, these versatile jigs are a must-have in your tackle box for shallow water missions, estuaries, or light gear sessions where subtle presentation makes all the difference.

How to work it

Cast the Buckabou Jig to shallow structure-mangroves, sand flats, and reef edges-and work it with a gentle lift-and-drop retrieve.

The sinking action allows you to probe the water column methodically; pause between lifts to let the marabou and tail fibres breathe and flutter naturally.

Match your weight to conditions: lighter jigs (2.5-5 g) excel in calm shallows and tight cover, while heavier options (7-28 g) cut through wind and reach deeper pockets within the shallow zone.

These jigs are deadly on little snapper, flounder, kahawai and other shallow-water species. The glow/UV fibre and flash trigger strikes in low light or stained water, while the subtle marabou movement works equally well in clear conditions.

Fish them on light spin or baitcasting gear to feel every bump and set the hook cleanly on the chemically sharpened point.
