How to fish the Hayabusa - Free Slide VS+

Big Kev's Tips

How to work it

The Free Slide VS+ is a sliding jig head system fished on a slow-pitch or slow-jigging cadence. Drop it to the bottom, then work it up through the lower water column with very slow, rhythmic lifts of the rod tip, letting the head slide freely on the line so the skirt and hook rig move naturally on the drop. The low-friction pipe and redesigned eye let the rig separate from the head, giving a more lifelike presentation on the pause.

When fish strike, don't strike back or you will pull the hooks -- let the rod do the work and gently wind, keeping constant pressure on the fish.

Pair it with a slow-jig rod (soft/sensitive tip) and a small overhead or spin reel loaded with ultra-thin Xbraid and a fluorocarbon leader. The fluorine-coated hooks aid penetration on the strike, so keep contact and lift into fish rather than swinging hard.

Use the interchangeable Hayabusa head and skirt system to tune colour and profile to conditions. Match head weight to depth and current - heavier heads hold bottom in deeper water or run tide, lighter heads suit shallower, calmer ground.

80 g A versatile mid-range weight for moderate depths and light-to-moderate current.
