About this lure
The Makimaki is a compact metal jig built for action. Whether you're casting from the rocks, flicking it off the beach, or slow-pitch jigging from the boat, this lure delivers. Available in 20g, 30g, 40g, and 60g, it's versatile enough to match a wide range of conditions.
Its standout feature? A spinner blade on the tail that flutters on the drop and spins on the retrieve—adding flash, vibration, and a whole lot of strike appeal. Rigged with a sharp assist hook and ready to fish straight out of the pack.
Why It Works
- Tail spinner creates action on both drop and wind
- Easy to cast, great for both land-based and boat use
- Pre-rigged with durable assist hook
- Four sizes to suit different depths and casting ranges

Big Kev's Tips
How to work it
The Makimaki is a compact sinking metal jig with a tail spinner blade that flutters on the drop and spins on the retrieve, adding flash and vibration. Let it sink to the bottom in 30m or more, then work it back with a slow-pitch jigging cadence-lift, pause, and let it flutter down where the blade does its work. Many hits come as the jig falls, so stay in contact with the line.
It casts easily, making it just as effective flicked from rocks and beaches as fished from the boat. Wind it steadily to keep the tail blade spinning through the water column, or mix in pauses to trigger following fish.
Pair it with a matched spin or slow-pitch rod and braid for feel and sink-rate control. The pre-rigged assist hook is ready straight from the pack. Target snapper, kingfish, kahawai, gurnard and trevally over bottom structure.
