About this lure

The Jack Eye Kunekune is a super versatile little jig that punches well above its weight. Available in 20g, 30g, 40g, and 60g, it's right at home whether you're slow-pitch jigging from the boat or casting off the beach or rocks.

Its asymmetrical body gives it a deadly flutter on the drop and a tight wobble on the wind—perfect for tempting hungry snapper, gurnard mooching along the bottom, or even trevally and kahawai smashing bait near the surface. Pre-rigged with twin assist hooks and a subtle tail skirt, it's ready to fish straight out of the pack and helps avoid snags in rough ground.

Why It Works So Well

  • Four sizes to suit different depths and conditions
  • Cast it, jig it — up to you
  • Killer wounded-baitfish action
  • Pre-rigged with durable twin assist hooks
  • Built tough for saltwater use

Big Kev's Tips

How to work it

Possibly the worlds most versatile lure!

Fish the Jack Eye Kunekune as a slow-pitch jig worked around structure and the bottom 30m+. Let it drop on a slack line so the asymmetrical body flutters and rolls like a wounded baitfish, then lift and wind to trigger the tight wobble on the way up. Pause often to let it flutter back down - that fall is where most strikes come.

Slow-pitch jig from the boat over foul or open ground, working the lower water column with short, sharp lifts. You can also cast it from the beach or off rocks and count it down before beginning the retrieve. The pre-rigged twin assist hooks and tail skirt fish straight from the pack and help keep it clear of snags in rough ground.

Match weight to depth and current, and target snapper and gurnard mooching the bottom, or trevally and kahawai smashing bait nearer the surface. Kingfish are also on the cards over structure.

The hooks are on the smaller side, make sure your drag is set correctly!
